How to choose the right recruitment agency for you.

It’s no secret that job hunting can be a daunting and sometimes difficult process, but having the right people to support you along the way can make all the difference when trying to secure that ideal role. Whether you’re seeking your first position, considering a change in career or looking to get back into work, one of your best resources will be a local or specialist recruitment agency.

So how do you go about choosing the recruitment agency that is right for you?

1. Identify your own objectives and needs as a job seeker
Before you start your search for your perfect recruiter, sit down and consider your own objectives and requirements. Some things to consider are:
Whether you are looking for temporary or permanent work, full time or part time, how long you’d be willing to commute and also the salary range you would consider. Having clarity about your professional needs will help you in choosing the right recruiter and will also help them pick out the most suitable roles for you.

2. Consider ‘Specialised vs Generalised’
There are lots of different recruitment agencies out there. Some are ‘specialised’, some are ‘generalised’ and the rest are somewhere in between. You can decide what type of agency you need by considering the types of roles you would be interested in.  For example, if you are specifically looking for a role as Administrator, you can check from an agencies website whether they have expertise within office recruitment. If you are willing to work in any area for which you are qualified or willing to learn, you may wish to consider more generalised agencies which will have a variety of roles.

They will want to know about your goals and objectives but this is also a chance for you to find out more about them – ask about their success rate, the types of roles they are currently recruiting for and whether they offer additional services such as CV advice or interview tips.
